Most rebates require that you send in specific proofs of purchase. Some offers require that you send in an original proof, a photocopied proof, or a combination of both, so double check the rebate form for instructions. Some examples of proofs of purchase that you may be asked for are:
Standard Proofs of Purchase (POP)
UPC:
This is the Universal Product Code found on every product. This code is used for scanning purposes.
Example:
Cash Register Receipt:
This is the sales slip given to you by the cashier at the time of sale. Most cash receipts are computer generated and provide a product description. You may be required to circle the proper item on the receipt.
Invoice:
Some retail establishments may use computer-generated invoices as opposed to cash register receipts.
Alternate Proofs of Purchase
The manufacturer may require that you send:
- A part of the product package
- A product seal
- A previous product that is being upgraded (e.g. software CD's)
